3G network test

On the off chance that you may have missed an advertisement or two in which carriers are bragging about their latest "3G" network speeds, this item might not be of particular interest. If you don't fall into that category, you might find the non-scientific study done by gadget blog Gizmodo of interest. In brief, here is what they found. In the tested cities, download speeds are in this graph:

And upload speeds are in this graph:

So, what does this mean to you? Well, first off, if you want a more symmetric connection, AT&T appears to be the best choice. For download speeds, on average, there isn't much difference between carriers. Finally, the results show that your results may vary depending on where you are. Helpful?

well, yes I think it will vary depending on where someone is regionally, I find it interesting At & T is so fast in certain cities where there is significant amount of federal contracts going on, I remember on the East coast AT & T and Verizon about 10+ years ago in general, these corporations left a very bad taste in people's mouths over their corporate fall out and split, which left many people out in the cold in terms of services.
They did not have a stellar consumer reputation in the east coast, following that corporate split. Also there were large waves of corporate layoffs on the east coast.

AT & T,Verizon & MCI, had also been in the news about contracts that invaded consumer privacy law.

maybe why it needs to be so robust.

Just saw that AT & T are laying off yet another round with 12,000 employees from a December 4th news link at Yahoo:

Yahoo News Dec. 4, 2008 See full article at above Yahoo News link
By BARBARA ORTUTAY, AP Technology Writer Barbara Ortutay, Ap Technology Writer – Thu Dec 4, 2:55 pm ET

"NEW YORK – Pressured by the economic turmoil and the mounting loss of traditional phone customers, AT&T Inc. is cutting 12,000 jobs, about 4 percent of its work force."

"The Dallas-based telecommunications company, the nation's largest, said the job cuts will begin this month and run throughout 2009. The company also plans to lower its capital spending next year, and one analyst estimates that reduction could be as much as $2 billion."

"The 300,000-person company has announced layoffs several times over the past few years, including in April, when it said it would eliminate 4,600 jobs, but it has been hiring at the same time."

Some people would rather use a TracPhone than buy anything from AT & T or other corporations anymore. Unless they had no other economic $$ choice as consumers.
