I don't if anyone else caught the fascinating article in this Sunday's New York Times Magazine, called Darwin's God, by Robin Marantz Henig. In addition to the content which is interesting, she does a remarkable job of weaving arguments, theory, and experiments in way that does not shy away from the underlying complexity of the thesis. There is no one conclusion but many possible explanations as to the importance of religion from an evolutionary perspective. It is tied in up in human cognition, anthropology, neuroscience, just to name a few.
I see from her website that she writes on a vareity of topics beyond science. I recall her NY Times article on dying was another great piece that went far beyond the simple arguments that we usually hear.

Yes, a very interesting article. It has been one of the top "socially bookmarked" (if such a verb exists) articles.
